marin californiaMarin County is a California gem, located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. This picturesque county is known for its natural beauty, and its communities are surrounded by parkland. From ancient redwoods to craggy beaches, Marin has something for everyone.

Home to approximately 252,409 residents, Marin county is a diverse and eclectic community. The town was historically a haven for musicians, hippies, artists, and counter-culture heroes, including members from the Grateful Dead and Metallica. Today, Marin County is broken up into 13 small towns and 14 villages. The towns, with a population of around 16,000 people on average, are dispersed across the slopes and valleys of Mount Tamalpais’ eastern side. With mild, Mediterranean weather, excellent schools, and natural beauty around every turn, Marin County is a desirable place to call home.

Marin County is also home to some of the most expensive real estate in California. In Marin, the median sold price for a single family home is $1.3M – much higher than the state median of approximately $734,612. Despite the high cost of living, Marin County remains a popular destination for families and young professionals.

Marinites are proud of their natural surroundings and community spirit, which is on display at local events like the Marin County Fair and the Marin Century bicycle ride. The Century bike ride began in 1963, when a group of determined Marin County cyclists proposed organizing a 100-mile bicycle ride through the region’s mountains. The event, run solely by volunteers, has since given over $450,000 to local youth, cycling and other non-profit organizations that serve the community.

Much of Marin County is protected open space, and the county takes its commitment to conservation seriously. The Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Muir Woods National Monument, Mount Tamalpais, and Marin County Open Space District are just a few of the beautiful, natural attractions that make Marin so special.
